Shopping Sprees

Active 20-30 Sacramento No.1 holds two shopping sprees a year: the Back to School Shopping Spree and the Holiday Shopping Spree. We take a 80-100 underpriveledged kids shopping, giving each child anywhere from $100 to $150 to spend. Each child is paired with a club member to help with the shopping, then everyone heads to the skating rink or bowling alley for some post-shopping fun. These shopping sprees allow these kids to start the new school year or have a happy holiday with new clothes, new shoes, warm winter jackets, etc.

2009 Holiday Shopping Spree

Active 20-30 Club No.1 Sacramento provided clothing for 75 children from the Mather Community Center and the Boy’s & Girls Club at our annual “Holiday Shopping Spree”. The Mather Community Center provides for those in need of a home along with other community services for the disadvantaged. Unfortunately during these trying times their resources are limited and demand is high. Each child received a $100 gift card, donated by the Active 20-30 Club No.1 Sacramento, to buy clothes at the Kohl’s in Folsom. The event was held Saturday December 5th 2009 from 7:00am-9:30am at Kohl’s in Folsom (1013 Riley Street, Folsom, CA 95630).

Santa and other special guests were on site to meet the children attending. Following the Shopping Spree, the Active 20-30 Club members took the kids out to Sunrise Rollerland for roller skating and lunch.

2009 Back To School Shopping Spree

The 2009 Back To School Shopping Spree took place July 25th, 2009, at Kohl’s in Folsom. 70 kids from the Mather Community Center and the Boy’s & Girls Club received a $100 shopping spree, donated by the Active 20-30 Club of Sacramento, and a backpack donated by Follett and Visions In Education. After shopping for new school clothes, the kids were treated to a trip to the Folsom Zoo, including lunch.

The event was held on Saturday December 6th 2008 at Target (10881 Olson Dr, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670).

The participating children had the opportunity to also have their hair cut, a service donated courtesy of Salon 360° hair salon. 2006 Holiday Shopping Spree

The 2006 Holiday Shopping Spree was held Saturday, December 9th, at the Mervyn’s in Rancho Cordova. We were able to take 90 kids shopping with $100 each to spend. Thanks to Mervyn’s, they were able to stretch their shopping money with no sales tax, and 15% discount on top of the existing 30-70% holiday sales prices. Each child was paired with a club member to help with the shopping, then everyone headed to the bowling alley for some post-shopping fun. These shopping sprees allow these kids to have a happy holiday with new clothes, new shoes, warm winter jackets, etc.

2004 Holiday Shopping Spree

For 2004, the HOLLYROD4KIDS Foundation made a generous donation that allowed us to double the size of the shopping spree. Holly Robinson Peete and her husband, former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, started the foundation to help children.

Altogether we were able to shop for 108 kids, 83 of which also joined us for bowling afterward. This event could not have happened without the 114 volunteers that showed up to work the event, as well as the event sponsors. Everyone had a great time. Some liked visiting with Santa best, others enjoyed bowling the most, and everyone liked the shopping.
